I clicked on the large PDF diagram on Will Richardson's site expecting to say something good - it looked like the diagram showed education taking place throughout the community, linked by a learning substructure. Once I saw the diagram up close, though, it's all just pictures of schools, with classes and teachers and students sitting in rows, even a principal all alone in his big office on the top floor. I half-typed a bunch of responses to this item and decided eventually to simply post it here. Let me just say I think it's a bad idea. Yes, a university-sponsored database containing a student's online content seems to have its allure. But how long before that service to students becomes control over students. How long, for example, before use of the university data store becomes mandatory? How long before the university begins applying copyright violation searches and content screening to the database? today began (at about 3:00 a.m. - I hate jet lag) with me messing around with moka5 LivePCs - "Once you have your LivePC on a USB stick or iPod you can plug into any x86 computer, do your thing, unplug and leave nothing behind." It is ending now with me about to reboot after uninstalling the software. Was it a dud? Not at all. But I'm just trying to cram too much onto this one tiny laptop. More...
