Computer Science 20 - Saskatchewan

Computer Science 20 - Saskatchewan
Dan Schellenberg, Saskatoon Public Schools, 2018/08/02
This link is to Dan Schellenberg's own copy of this openly-licesed computer science resource and will be updated over time - the official Saskatoon Public Schools of the CS 20 curriculum resource can be found here. Either way you have a nice clean workbook that will take students through Scratch, the Reeborg environment, and Python. More...

Domain Camp

Domain Camp
Alan Levine, Domains of Our Own, Ontario Extend, 2018/08/01
This is a set of four weeks of content (and a catch-up week) on the idea of creating a domain of one's own. It's an introductory course (though even the experienced will learn a thing or two) but more to the point it covers content completely skipped over in this era of living in online silos like Facebook and Twitter. Mixed Reality: A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Teaching and Learning

Mixed Reality: A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Teaching and Learning
Sue Workman, EDUCAUSE Review, 2018/08/01
This article focuses mostly on the anatomy lab at Case Western Reserve University which is focused on providing virtual reality simulations rather than cadavers. It's also a bit of an advertisement for Microsoft's HoloLens. More...

In the winter of 1981 I was sent to Austin, Texas, for three months to learn IBM's new MVS-JES (Multiple Virtual Storage - Job Entry Subsystem) mainframe computer, which would be the backbone of our global network of data processing sites (I was based in Calgary, others were based in Australia and Britain). Mapping Pedagogy to Technology: A Simple Model

Mapping Pedagogy to Technology: A Simple Model
Via james Farmer comes this presentation that outlines major features of some theories of pedagogy, shifts them a bit, then maps them to technology (specifically, WebCT Vista). I think it's a good (though brief) presentation. More...

Building the Maricopa Learning eXchange(Using a Bit of Competition and Bribery)

Building the Maricopa Learning eXchange(Using a Bit of Competition and Bribery)
It's no longer three dimensional (though it has nice pictures of the three dimensional original), but this web version of the Maricopa Learning eXchange poster delivered to the recent Merlot conference does something the original didn't really do: it explains all the parts of the Learning eXchange and lets me link to them. RSSlets - Functional RSS Feeds

RSSlets - Functional RSS Feeds
Via Scott Leslie comes this nifty link to RSSlets, a set of useful RSS feeds designed to grab dynamic data. This is where the real power of RSS shines (and imagine having dynamic data feeds embedded in your course). More...

Bayes on RSS feeds - Unsuitable?

Bayes on RSS feeds - Unsuitable?
Seb tossed this link to me and I feel like I ought to respond. It begins with the tantalizing idea of using Bayes Theorem using some Perl modules to autocategorize blog content. Nifty idea. Could it work? Well, not according to the critics. It does not take into account the origin of the feed, it does not take into account the placement of the word, and it does not take into account the relative importance of the word (such as placement in a title). For Those Needing 32 More Bits

For Those Needing 32 More Bits
Just another nudge for those looking at what's coming down the pipe in the next two or three years. The bad news: all your computers will become obsolete. The good news: the new 64 bit computers will be significantly better. More...
