Doctoral education matters for Europe more than ever before

Ambitious targets to tackle economic and social challenges by increasing research spending in turn mean that many more trained researchers will be needed. Doctoral education is a central part of this scenario. Across Europe, doctoral candidates are working at the interface between education, research and innovation. However, the changing nature of research and how it is used pose new challenges for universities in developing the next generation of researchers. EQAF 2018 Call for Contributions

The 2018 European Quality Assurance Forum (EQAF) will take place in Vienna, Austria on 15-17 November 2018, hosted by WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) and AQ Austria. EQAF is organised annually by ENQA, ESU, EUA and EURASHE and attracts over 400 participants from the higher education quality assurance (QA) community from Europe and beyond. Impactful simplification in ‘Horizon Europe’: EUA report calls for more trust and flexibility

In the run-up to the Commission proposal for Horizon Europe’s rules for participation, universities call for effective simplification of EU funding management. Simpler rules for participation have the potential to increase the added value and improve the efficiency and impact of EU funding. Bologna Process: Paris Communiqué adopted

On 25 May, European education ministers adopted the Paris Communiqué at the Bologna Process Ministerial Conference.
It takes on topics already discussed in the Yerevan Communiqué such as implementation, learning and teaching, digitalisation and academic and civic values. This time, however, they are addressed in a more assertive and detailed fashion. For example, regarding implementation, a mechanism will support individual countries in improving in the three key-commitment areas: recognition, quality assurance, and the three-cycle system.
