IAU Horizons (Vol. 20. No.3) now available online

Couverture en anglaisIn preparation for the International Conference on Higher Education for Sustainable Development, Nagoya 9 November 2014, and the UNESCO World Conference on ESD, Nagoya, Japan, 10-12 November 2014, IAU prepared a special issue of IAU Horizons on The role of higher education in the post 2015 Development Agenda. The 18 papers from the In Focus section aim to fuel – if not initiate - discussions on this topic in your institutions, organisations and networks.
For more information on the above mentioned international Conferences and the roles IAU plays in both, please go to the IAU global portal for HESD: www.iau-hesd.net.
The magazine as well provides a report on IAU priority areas, new projects and initiatives, upcoming conferences, calls for papers and participation amongst other things. The magazine also lists new Members of IAU, the Association’s latest publications and a selection of books received at the IAU for inclusion in HEDBIB.

Call for papers
The In Focus section of the next issue of IAU Horizons (Vol.21, no.1) will be on Social innovation: Challenges and perspectives for higher education. If you wish to contribute to this issue, please contact: Hilligje van’t Land (h.vantland@iau-aiu.net) by 15 February 2015.

AIU Horizons (Vol. 20. No.3) maintenant disponible en ligne

couverture AIU Horizons en FREn vue de la Conférence internationale sur l’enseignement supérieur pour le développement durable et la Conférence mondiale UNESCO sur EDD, 9 puis 10-12 novembre 2014, à Nagoya au Japon, l’AIU vous propose un numéro spécial de AIU Horizons sur Le rôle de l’enseignement supérieur dans l’agenda du développement post 2015. Les 18 papiers publiés sont destinés à alimenter ou même initier des débats dans vos établissements, organisations et réseaux sur ce thème.
Par ailleurs, le magazine publie, entre autre, des rapports sur les priorités thématiques et les projets de l’AIU, sur les conférences à venir, les appels à papiers. Les nouveaux Membres y sont annoncés et les nouvelles publications de l’AIU et autres publications reçues à l’AIU pour inclusion dans HEDBIB présentées.

Responses to independent review of metrics

HEFCE logoA summary of responses to a call for evidence on the use of metrics in research assessment has been published by HEFCE.
Within the call, issued in May 2014, respondents were asked to focus on four key issues: identifying useful metrics for research assessment; how metrics should be used in research assessment; ‘gaming’ and strategic use of metrics; and international perspectives.

Quality Assessment Review Steering Group announced

HEFCE logoA Quality Assessment Review Steering Group has been established, consisting of representatives from the higher education sector including the National Union of Students [Note 1]. Professor Dame Shirley Pearce CBE [Note 2] has been asked to chair the group by the funding bodies of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland [Note 3].
The Steering Group will lead and shape the debate about how best quality assessment should be conducted in the future. It will oversee the mechanisms to gather a wide range of perspectives and the fora to ensure that these are heard, discussed, and considered carefully. The Group will gather intelligence on the operation of quality assessment in other international systems and in other sectors within the UK. Cedefop contribution to Italian EU Presidency activities on VET

Cedefop - European Centre for the Development of Vocational TrainingA top-level Cedefop delegation presented the agency’s current work at the Directors General for Vocational Education and Training (DGVT) meeting (13-14 October) and the Italian EU Presidency youth guarantee conference (15 October) in Rome.
Deputy Director Mara Brugia analysed preliminary results of Cedefop’s work on the synergy between European transparency tools. Senior expert Lore Schmid presented the policy handbook on access to and participation in continuous vocational education and training (CVET) in Europe and senior expert Jasper van Loo introduced the fundamentals/multipliers approach in the 2015 VET review.
