Re: Graham Attwell Needs to Take a Closer Look at Second Life

By Stephen Downes - Stephen's Web. Re: Graham Attwell Needs to Take a Closer Look at Second Life
I've just signed up for second life and will be posting about the safe way to do it. Educators need to be looking for creative ways to connect with students not criticize them. I love teenagers and if they are in to it, I'll go into it as well if it is appropriate to use to teach. I use ipods, cell phones, and now will be planning to use second life to teach. It is called relating to students in methods they care about to teach the content that I know that they need to know. That is good teaching. More...

I don't recall any media push behind, say, the use of MUDs in e-learning, blogs in e-learning. Or mailing lists, or even things like Flickr or del.icio.us. So how does Second Life rate such coverage? I still think that what really distinguishes Second Life from other technology is its marketing, the very big push it's getting from mainstream media. More...

Oddly named new portal for online learning. Craig Graham writes, "The site features blog aggregation, product ratings and reviews, a discussion forum , and a social networking component - targeted to e-learning professionals." While I applaud the effort, I have to ask whether we need another e-learning portal. More...
