More than 150 internal members and doctors of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences have signed an open letter to Academy President Professor László Lovász, voicing concern about the “anti-democratic processes” that have taken place in the country in the past few years, especially the threat to freedom of the press, and demanding that the body investigate or initiate debate about the “urgent issues facing Hungarian society”. The UK has provided an important update on the status of EU students in connection to Brexit. EU students applying for the 2017-2018 academic year in universities in England, Scotland and Wales will be eligible for student loans and grants for the duration of their degree course (Northern Ireland has not yet issued such assurance). The arrangement also guarantees that these students, who may be in the midst of their studies when the UK leaves the EU, will still be able to finish on the same terms as students from the UK. The Forum brought together 400 participants from the 33 countries participating in Erasmus+ to discuss the New Skills Agenda for Europe and explore how it can connect education, the labour market and society.
