Designing Learning Objects

Designing Learning Objects
Part of my ongoing series for the Australian Flexible Learning Community, this article looks at dsome of the issues facing designers of learning objects. The article is too short (I only have 1000 words) but as with some of my other work, I try to foster the idea that designing learning like a game is the only real way to address the issues raised by Friesen, Wiley, and for that matter, myself. Universal Design for Learning Is About Access

Universal Design for Learning Is About Access
Leonardo Tissot, Thomas Tobin, e-learn, 2018/03/28
When I was reading this article I clicked on the option to make the text size larger. It's a simple thing, but for a person with poor eyesight it's significant. This is the idea of Universal Design for Learning (UDL); it "allows many people never to have to say, 'please treat me differently.'" There's a funny little digression in the middle of the article where the author also addresses learning styles - after all, UDL allows differentiation, which learning style sceptics say you should never do. But UDL points to the obvious: some people need to be accommodated, sometimes permanently, sometimes just for the moment. More...

Killing the Biggest Myth of Web Design

Killing the Biggest Myth of Web Design
It's called "dumbing down" and the point of this article is to argue that web readers want no part of it. "Users don't read. Users don't scroll. Users need small words, small sentences, bullet lists, anchor links, pats on the head, and milk and cookies before bedtime. Each of these panels I attend leaves another small, burning hole in my stomach." Well, yeah. More...

Learning Designers as Digital Nomads

By Joshua Kim.
