Top Young Universities in Australia

It’s fair to say that universities in Australia dominate the new edition of the QS Top 50 Under 50 – a ranking of the world’s top 50 universities under 50 years old, based on the 2013/14 QS World University Rankings®. Les agents doubles du classement de Shanghai

Depuis une dizaine d'années, l'usage massif de la bibliométrie pour noter, classer, punir et récompenser les chercheurs individuels et les équipes, fait rage. L'une des conséquences les plus perverses en est son usage pour la conduite de stratégies pour le financement de la recherche publique et des Universités. L'un des classements les plus célèbre, et pourtant l'un des plus rudimentaires, destiné à l'origine à donner quelques clés élementaires de lecture du système de recherche à des étudiants chinois en quête d'un laboratoire où candidater est celui dit de "Shanghai". En réalité celui d'une petite équipe de l'Université Jiao Tong de Shanghai. The QS Under 50 Rankings

http://www.ireg-observatory.org/templates/sub_business2/images/ireg_top2013.pngQuacquarelli Symonds have published the latest edition of their ranking of universities established in the last fifty years. The methodology is the same as that used in the 2013/2014 World University Rankings.

The top five are:

  • Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  • Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
  • Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology
  • City University of Hong Kong
  • Pohang University of Science and Technology, Korea

Nine of the top new universities are in Australia, five in Spain, four in Hong Kong, three in the USA and two each in Korea, UK, Canada, Germany and Sweden. Another 16 countries have one each in the top fity. Meabwhile Times Higher Education have announced that their top 100 new universities will be announced on 28 April at the Young Universities Summit which will be held in Miami in collaboration with Plymouth University, UK.

The new edition of the QS Top 50 Under 50 is released today, a ranking of the world’s top 50 universities under 50 years old, based on the highest ranking young universities in the 2013/14 QS World University Rankings®.
This is the third time QS has published the ranking, which aims to highlight relatively newly established universities already making a big impact in the global rankings. This feat is particularly impressive as the ranking is compiled based on factors including international reputation, research citations and international diversity of students and staff – all of which typically take a significant period of time to establish. Will global rankings boost HE in emerging countries?

IITs vie as unit for global ranking

All the 13 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are now expected to battle as a single unit to achieve a prestigious rank globally. These may now compete as one entity in order to hold a position among top universities of the globe, according to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD). 
Higher Education Secretary Ashok Thakur has said that the aim is to position the IITs as a single unit, on the lines of IIT as a brand. This step is aimed at placing it among the top three institutes of the world. More...

Europe leads the way in new ranking of online and distance MBA programs

http://www.universitybusiness.com/sites/all/themes/u_business/images/Cover.jpgEurope’s top business schools are currently outstripping their North American counterparts when it comes to the reputation of their online and distance MBA programs, a new global ranking shows.Seven of the top ten schools in the QS Distance Online MBA Ranking are European, with Spain’s IE Business School beating the UK’s Warwick Business School to the top spot.
The UK takes six of the top ten spots, with Warwick joined by Manchester Business School (5), Imperial College (6), Oxford Brookes (7), Henley Business School (8) and University of Strathclyde Business School (10).

York U makes top 20 list of greenest universities in world ranking

For the fourth year running, York University has ranked among the greenest universities on the planet, placing 13th overall in the 2013 GreenMetric Ranking on university sustainability. The 2013 survey included more than 300 universities from 61 countries around the world.
The GreenMetric Ranking rates participating universities on criteria such as energy consumption and climate change mitigation, waste and water management, transportation, and teaching and research in sustainability. More...
