4th QS-MAPLE Conference - QS World University Rankings: Arab World - May 6-8, 2014, Dusit Thani Hotel, Abu Dhabi, UAE

In conjunction with 4th QS-MAPLE, an exclusive QS rankings session will be conducted after the main conference on Thursday, May 8, 2014. This year’s rankings workshop will be a very special one: QS World University Rankings: Arab World.
The QS Intelligence Unit aims to execute a regional ranking that enables us to dig deeper into what is happening in the developing economies of the Arab world. Rather than a sole source of information pertaining to quality, this ranking should also be seen as a tool that can help improve transparency and accountability in the regional and global market of higher education.
We would like to kick-off this project with you helping us identify most relevant indicators for evaluating universities in the Arab world according to feasibility, applicability and priority of those indicators, measuring key features such as research and teaching quality, graduate employability, internationalization, inclusion, university output, innovation and knowledge transfer, third mission or infrastructure. Your input will be essential in defining a strong yet practical methodology for which we are able to collect data as complete and accurate as possible.

Thursday, 24 April 2014
U-Multirank Launches Tuesday, 13 May 2014
The wait is almost over! The new U-Multirank web tool will be released online (www.u-multirank.eu) on Tuesday, 13 May 2014. To kick-off the launch, the U-Multirank team will be making a presentation at an EU press conference on 13 May in Brussels. The press event will be livestreamed for the public’s viewing. Details regarding the livestream will be made available on the U-Multirank homepage (www.u-multirank.eu) once available.
For the first time U-Multirank will allow users to make comparisons of institutions of similar profiles and develop personalised rankings by selecting indicators that matter most to them. U-Multirank will cover more than 800 higher education institutions from more than 70 countries worldwide. More than 500 institutions provided data for the 2014 round of U-Multirank and an additional 300+ research intensive institutions were added with data obtained through publicly available bibliometric and patent data bases in the area of research and knowledge transfer.
The U-Multirank web tool will provide institutional rankings on whole institutions as well as field-based rankings for electrical and mechanical engineering, business studies and physics. The results will be displayed in a friendly, user-driven, interactive web tool with various access points: a special track tailored to students – focusing on teaching and learning, a “compare track” which allows users to compare institutions with similar profiles or make comparisons with a particular institution in mind, an “explore track” which allows users to directly view the complete performance profile of a specific institution and  a track with “readymade” rankings as examples of how institutions with similar profiles can be compared in a relevant selection of performance areas.
The U-Multirank project is jointly led by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) in Germany and the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) in the Netherlands. The project is funded by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme. For more information about U-Multirank and how to pre-register for 2015, visit www.u-multirank.eu. For any immediate questions or comments contact us, at info@u-multirank.eu or +49 0 5241 9761-58.

U-Multirank

European Commission logoWhat is it?
U-Multirank is a new user-driven, multidimensional, world ranking of universities and colleges covering many aspects of higher education: research, teaching and learning, international orientation, knowledge transfer and regional. U-Multirank is an independent ranking, with financial support in its initial years from the European Union.
Why is it being done?
The potential of European higher education institutions to fulfil their role in society and to contribute to economic and social development is underexploited. More transparency is needed so that different stakeholders – students, institutions, businesses, policy makers – can deepen their understanding of how higher education institutions are performing. U-Multirank is a key tool for this.
What has been done?
Following a feasibility study, U-Multirank is now being implemented. See more...

Ranking and mapping – U-Multirank coming up

By Hedda. Have you heard about U-Multirank? It is a project to develop a multidimensional ranking tool where users can decide what indicator they want to rank the institutions by. This means that no composite scores will be presented which would allow to create one single ranking of top 10 or top 100 of the best institutions. The main idea is that one can compare institutions with similar profiles to each other rather than create a single list, with the argument being that a single composite score does not sufficiently  take into account the various profiles of institutions.
