Sheffield University rated best place to be a student? You'd better believe it

http://static.guim.co.uk/static/c55907932af8ee96c21b7d89a9ebeedb4602fbbf/common/images/logos/the-guardian/news.gifBy . The Times Higher Education survey results are no surprise: Sheffield is inclusive, welcoming and joyfully cheap.
The response I receive from many uninformed people when I reveal that I went to university in Sheffield ranges from surprise and polite mumbling about steel to a not remotely concealed it's-grim-up-north face, along with a confused "why?"
Well, those who have been a student in Sheffield, or indeed have visited the city for a significant amount of time, will know the answer. Rated number one in this year's Times Higher Education Student Experience survey, the University of Sheffield is quite rightly being recognised for being a fantastic place to study in a poll that isn't exclusively focused on academia. Sheffield University ranks top for 'student experience'

http://bathknightblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/telegraph-logo.jpgBy Josie Gurney-Read. The University of Sheffield ranks highest for "student experience", while universities in the capital make up half of the bottom 20, according to results released today. Gone are the days when universities would concern themselves exclusively with their academic offering. Now, with many institutions competing for school leavers, the “student experience” features just as highly on the higher education agenda.
Today the Times Higher Education (THE) releases the results of its student experience survey, based on responses from over 14,000 full time undergraduate students in 111 institutions across the UK. Read more...

University: High marks for teaching but could do better at research

The University of Malta gets good grades in teaching and learning but has been marked as “weak” in research and knowledge transfer.
In an EU-financed report ranking 850 universities worldwide on their performance in a number of areas, the Msida campus scored B grades in teaching and learning, particularly on Bachelor and Masters graduation rates and graduating on time.
However, the university scores badly when it comes to research.
The Maltese university was only awarded A grades in international orientation and income from regional sources, particularly due to the fact that many foreign students are choosing Malta for their courses.
The study, called U-Multirank, was conducted by an independent consortium of institutions led by Germany’s Centre for Higher Education and the Centre for Higher Education Policy Studies in the Netherlands. More...
