UIL and Shanghai Open University sign a three-year agreement

UILThe role of universities in implementing lifelong learning, capacity-building initiatives and the establishment of an Online Resource Centre on lifelong learning will be at the core of the cooperation. A UIL-SOU Project Cooperation Office will be established at SOU to support the implementation of these activities. UNESCO report shows fewer than 5% of people in many countries benefit from adult learning opportunities

UILPublished by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, the report monitors the extent to which UNESCO Member States put their international commitments regarding adult learning and education into practice and reflects data submitted by 159 countries. It calls for a major change in the approach to adult learning and education (ALE) backed by adequate investment to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to access and benefit from adult learning and education and that its full contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is realized. On May 26-29, 2020 in Moscow the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in co-operation with the Research Council for the Problems of African Countries, holds the 15th African Studies Conference titled Destinies of Africa in the Modern World. The secret life of universities (Advocate 26 03)

Increasingly, universities are relying upon confidentiality directions to ensure that information is kept out of the public domain. It is then the university’s exclusive task to ‘craft the message’. This is particularly so when it comes to disciplinary proceedings. 
Everyone will be familiar with the Peter Ridd and James Cook University (JCU) case currently on appeal in the Federal Court of Australia. In that case, Dr Ridd was accused of, and ultimately had his employment terminated because he exercised his rights to intellectual freedom. Students launch campaign to fight corporate universities

Tonight, five peak student bodies representing students across Australia will be launching the campaign Our Education in Our Hands. The National Union of Students (NUS), Council of Australian Postgraduate Students (CAPA), National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Postgraduate Association (NATSIPA), Union of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students (UATSIS) and the Council of International Students Australia (CISA) have teamed up to advocate for a vision for higher education that serves the public interest rather than private profits. NTEU National Executive passes condolence motion in recognition of Sam Watson
