Media Release: Academic freedoms must be enshrined in law

The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) has today welcomed the core findings of the French Review. It has called on the Federal Government to legislate to define academic freedom but said that a voluntary code was not sufficient to protect it.   The Union has called for a statement to be negotiated for inclusion in collective agreements. NTEU submission to Assistant Professor Review

This morning the NTEU has sent its submission to the University of Canberra Independent Review of the Contingent Continuing Employment 2019, which is examining the Assistant Professor Scheme. This submission has been informed by the experience of Enterprise Bargaining throughout 2018/9 and, more recently, a survey of current and former Assistant Professors (21 June-1 July) followed by an Open Meeting on 2 July.
