À niveau scolaire égal, l'académie d'origine, la présence d'une C.P.G.E. dans le lycée mais aussi le sexe et l'origine sociale influencent sensiblement la décision des élèves de choisir une C.P.G.E. en premier voeu sur A.P.B. L'ampleur des effets étudiés est particulièrement grande chez les lycéens en série scientifique. Pour ces derniers, et à caractéristiques égales, il faut qu'une fille ait une moyenne supérieure de 1,5 points au baccalauréat pour qu'elle ait la même probabilité qu'un garçon de placer une C.P.G.E. en premier voeu. Parmi les élèves qui demandent une C.P.G.E. en premier voeu, les probabilités d'obtenir ce premier voeu, fortement corrélées à leur niveau scolaire, sont en revanche indépendantes du sexe et de l'origine sociale. Néanmoins, deux effets contraires semblent influencer le choix des lycées accueillant des C.P.G.E.
