Une proposition de loi est actuellement en discussion au parlement hongrois qui menace l'existence même de la Central European University (CEU), un membre important de l'AIU basé à Budapest. La législation limite l'autonomie de la CEU prévoyant entre autres de l'empêcher de délivrer des diplômes américains et d'employer des professeurs étrangers.
