Cela fait sept ans qu’elle est en France inscrite en thèse et s’exprime dans un français correct. Elle a beaucoup travaillé (de l’aveu même des rapporteurs), son directeur de recherche l’a laissée programmer une soutenance… qui n’aura pas lieu. Le directeur de recherche indique que l’affaire n’est pas rattrapable.
Comment en est-on arrivé à un tel gâchis ?
Au-delà de ce cas douloureux, la question de l’encadrement des doctorants étrangers en lettres et sciences humaines et sociales est posée. Déjà le taux d’abandon général (étudiants français compris) en thèses de lettres et SHS (40 %) devrait inquiéter, comme la durée moyenne des thèses (cinq ans et demi). Mais les échos que l’on peut glaner auprès des collègues et des associations spécialisées n’incitent guère à l’optimisme. La France s’enorgueillit d’être la troisième destination mondiale des étudiants internationaux, ceux-ci représentent 41 % des doctorants en France : encore faudrait-il organiser leur accueil et leur réussite.
