ESU welcomes the new Skills Agenda but warns it can become a double edge sword

ESU - European Students' UnionWhile ensuring that all citizens have the possibility to be equipped with adequate skills, many initiatives within the Skills Agenda are planned to primarily serve short-term labour market needs instead of the big societal challenges that Europe faces nowadays.
Today, the European Commission launched the New Skills Agenda for Europe, a new initiative for sustaining jobs, growth and competitiveness in the European Union. This initiative is led by the Commissioner Thyssen, in charge of Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility, and contains a series of proposals, among others a Skills Guarantee, a revision of the Key Competences Framework and of the European Qualification Frameworks. ESU joins forces with Scholars at Risk network

ESU - European Students' UnionESU has become, the newest affiliate of the Scholars at Risk network, for better protecting scholars and promoting academic freedom around the world. ESU also joined forces with SAR and other partners in urging the UN Human Rights Council to give strong consideration when appointing the next Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education to the concerns of higher education. ESU to obtain consultative status before the United Nations

ESU - European Students' UnionThe Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, standing committee of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, agreed to recommend the European Students’ Union for consultative status. Students worldwide sign landmark declaration to unite in a global student voice

ESU - European Students' UnionThe European Students’ Union (ESU) is glad to announce its formal adoption of the «The Bergen Declaration» a global declaration drafted by student activists from South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific in May 2016. The Norwegian Students’ Union (NSO) and the European Students’ Union (ESU) jointly took the initiative to compose, together with students from across the globe, a document which demonstrates a statement of values for a global student voice. HousErasmus+ : Your support needed for new project on international students'

ESU - European Students' UnionWhen it comes to studying abroad, international students often encounter difficulties in finding accommodation and the communication platforms designed to help them are not always optimal. For this reason, HousErasmus+ project aims to identify all the challenges and best practices that students and trainees face when they are looking for an accommodation abroad. Based on these information, recommendations will be made, based on insight gained through research, study visits, surveys and conferences that can be presented to the policy makers also on European level to increase mobility. National Union of Students UK. Glasgow Student Saved from Deportation

ESU - European Students' UnionNUS Scotland welcomed some positive news in the ongoing campaign to save Glasgow student Lord Elias Mensah Apetsi from deportation. The Home Office has withdrawn the decision to refuse Lord’s human rights claim, and the refusal to revoke his deportation order, they will be reconsidering his case. Before the Home Office’s deportation order, which was made without all the facts being presented and considered – Lord, a Master’s Student at Strathclyde University, Glasgow, had just been voted ‘Student of the Year’.
