Tuition Discounting

The article on increasing tuition discounting (Discounting Grows Again) in the Tuesday edition of Inside Higher Ed was no surprise whatsoever. As noted in the article, the average first year discount rate increased in 2014 from 46.4% to 48% and though the increase is modest, the yearly increases in the discount rate continue unabated. Cross Country Coach, 88, Alleges Age Discrimination

HomeA former men's and women's cross country coach at Hunter College has filed an age discrimination complaint against the college, alleging that he was “relegated to being an office assistant” because the college thought he was too old to continue as coach. Edwin Zarowin, who is 88, told The New York Times that Hunter officials asked him to step down as coach and to become an “athletic archivist.” Read more...

Harvard Will Let Students Select Pronouns

HomeHarvard University has started letting students select the pronouns by which they wish to be referred, The Boston Globe reported. Many transgender students reject the traditional he/she binary and prefer terms such as "ze," "hir" and "hirs." Others prefer plural pronouns such as "they." Harvard is letting students indicate their preference at registration so that faculty members can be aware of such preferences. Read more...

Howard U Students Take Complaints to Twitter

HomeStudents at Howard University took to Twitter Wednesday in a campaign to draw attention to complaints about student services and facilities at the institution.
