Deutsche Uni in Kairo wirft Studierende raus

Von , und . Eine „Vermittlerin und Förderin der demokratischen Entwicklung in Ägypten“ – so sieht sich die German University in Cairo (GUC). Mit diesem Anspruch wurde sie vor mehr als zehn Jahren gegründet und so steht es bis heute auf der Webseite der Uni. Die GUC ist die größte Hochschule im Ausland, die von Deutschland finanziell unterstützt wird, ein Prestigeprojekt der deutschen Außen- und Bildungspolitik. Doch in und um die GUC passieren spätestens seit der Revolution in Ägypten vom Januar 2011 Dinge, die nicht zum Selbstverständnis der Uni passen. Canberra to waive state school fees for overseas university researchers
