New Dutch scholarships a thank you to Canada

While on a three-day state visit to Canada at the end of May, the king and queen of the Netherlands unveiled the new Liberation Scholarship Program that will provide 70 scholarships to Canadians to study at Dutch universities. Oxford University first female head

Prof Richardson is currently in charge at St Andrews and has previously had a senior role at Harvard University. 
If she is formally adopted as the 272nd vice chancellor, Prof Richardson will follow almost eight centuries of male heads of Oxford University. More...

LGBTQ issues can't be ignored in schools, say Calgary students and advocates

LGBTQ students across Canada participated Monday in an interactive “think tank” event discussing the challenges they face at school every day — including homophobic bullying — and strategies to overcome those barriers.
The event was developed by the Canadian Safe School Network, which partnered with several agencies in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Annapolis Valley and Calgary, each forming a “think tank” composed of 14 to 18 students. More...

Bitcoin U: Why Simon Fraser bookstores are accepting virtual currency

A British Columbia university has started accepting the digital currency Bitcoin at all of its bookstores, allowing customers to open their mobile wallets in what's believed to be a first for post-secondary institutions in Canada.
Simon Fraser University has also installed automated Bitcoin vending machines on its campuses in Burnaby, Vancouver and Surrey. More...
