Stereotyping international students is unjust
By Ly Tran and Catherine Gomes. Around the world, over 4.5 million students are undertaking overseas tertiary education. There are approximately 590,000 international student enrolments in Australia by December 2014.
A recent ABC Four Corners Episode and associated comments over social media thrust international students into the spotlight. While it identified real problems of collusion, plagiarism and fraudulent overseas agents, it depicted international students as vulnerable and desperate individuals who were unprepared to cope with tertiary education in the English language.
