ERAC ERA Roadmap 2015-2020: Nothing new under the sun

Today, the European Research Area and Innovation Committee (ERAC) adopted its opinion on the European Research Area (ERA) Roadmap 2015-2020. This document is drafted by the EU Member States at the request, in February 2014, of the EU Competitiveness Council. The document intends to guide the Member States in structuring their implementation of ERA at national level.
On 18 January 2000, the European Commission adopted an ambitious communication “Towards a European research area”. Fifteen years later, the Member States, through ERAC, finally take ownership of the ERA process with this ERA Roadmap 2015-2020. It identifies a limited number of key implementation priorities which are likely to have the biggest impact on Europe’s science, research and innovation systems if all the members of the ERA Partnership get them right.
