Times Higher Education (THE) has unveiled a ranking of 30 MENA (Middle East and North Africa) universities at the MENA Universities Summit in Doha, Qatar. The ranking contains a single indicator, research impact, which is measured by field normalised citations of papers in the Scopus database. In addition, data on the number of publications over a five year period is provided although they are not used for ranking. THE describes the ranking as “a snapshot of what a new ranking of universities in the Middle East and North Africa could look like.”
