New York Times College Rating

The New York Times is preparing “a new ranking of colleges and universities based on their ability to attract underprivileged kids”. The background to the proposed rating is the concern that established rankings such as the US News and World Report’s (USNWR) America’s Best Colleges encourage universities to put too much emphasis on recruiting outstanding faculty and keeping class sizes low. As a result, institutions may neglect to provide adequate support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
