Register of higher education providers

HEFCE logo1. This summer, the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) will publish an online Register of higher education providers and we plan to include your organisation on it. This letter explains why the Register is being created, what it will include, and the actions you may wish to take.

Presenting VET to the Commission

Cedefop - European Centre for the Development of Vocational TrainingOver 35 people working at the European Commission took part at a lunchtime presentation of Cedefop and its work, organised by the Directorate General Education and Culture (DG EAC) on 20 June, in Brussels.
Cedefop Director James Calleja focused on the agency’s role in helping the Commission devise and implement vocational education and training (VET) policies and analysed the parameters for 2015’s work programme.
Senior expert Eleonora Schmid informed participants about the findings of the 2014 VET policy monitoring report, which will be the theme of a special conference in Thessaloniki, in September.
During the discussion that followed, Commission colleagues from DG EAC and DG Employment enquired how Cedefop could further support Member States in view of the recently launched apprenticeship reviews in Malta and Lithuania. More...

Employee skill assessments lack links to national validation systems

Cedefop - European Centre for the Development of Vocational TrainingCedefop report finds that to best serve individuals, validation of non-formal and informal learning must take experience of companies into account.
Most of the European debate on validating non-formal and informal learning focuses on how such mechanisms are organised within national education and training systems. Meanwhile, many companies systematically assess employees’ competence and skills, mainly for purposes of recruitment and to formulate personnel management and training strategies. Employment report shows lower skilled workers face increasing difficulties to find a job

Cedefop - European Centre for the Development of Vocational TrainingLow qualified workers encounter increasing difficulties to find a job, face lower job stability and are out-competed by medium-skilled workers even in elementary occupations. In contrast, job opportunities are growing in some high-skilled professions.

New European skills passport will facilitate recruitment in hospitality sector - Watch the video

Cedefop - European Centre for the Development of Vocational TrainingThe European Commission has just launched theEuropean hospitality skills passport, a tool developed to facilitate contact between jobseekers and employers in the hospitality and tourism sector in Europe.
The skills passport allows workers and employers to overcome language barriers and to compare hospitality workers' skills in order to facilitate recruitment in the sector. Hosted on the European job mobility portal EURES, the skills passport is available in all EU official languages.
The passport will be extended to other sectors in the future.

Special Eurobarometer survey on the European area for skills and qualifications Education and training don't match available job

Cedefop - European Centre for the Development of Vocational TrainingA new Eurobarometer survey on the European area of skills and qualifications' (Special Eurobarometer 417) shows also that around a quarter (23%) of EU citizens feel that their education or training has not provided them with the skills to find a job in line with their qualifications.
While over half of the respondents (56%) think their qualifications would be recognised in other Member States, 6% tried to work or study in another Member State but were unable to do so, either because their qualifications were not recognised by their prospective employer or education institution, or because the respondents lacked information about recognition of their qualifications abroad.

This report highlights the diversity of youth work practice, the variety of actors involved, the observable trends in the sector, features of successful youth work and the range of outcomes associated with that success. Ce cours est destiné à des étudiants ayant déjà acquis les bases et qui veulent perfectionner leur connaissances en travaillant sur des textes authentiques.
Les extraits que nous allons étudier porteront sur des thèmes variés: des sourates du Coran, des textes de Mille et une nuits, des passages du Livre des Couvents de Al-Chabouchti Kitab al-diyaraat (11ème siècle).
Il est possible de travailler sur des documents modernes si les étudiants le désirent (par exemple Mahmoud Darwich).

Cost-sharing impact study

studyDo changes in cost-sharing have an impact on the behaviour of students and higher education institutions?

 

pdf(1.99 Mb) Choose translations of the previous linkThis report analyses the effects of different models of cost-sharing in higher education (the split between public and private contributions to higher education funding) on students and higher education institutions.

The study examines trends in participation and completion in third-level education, as well as factors such as system structure, institutional revenue and strategy over the last 15 years in nine case study higher education systems in order to understand better how different models of funding – and changes to these – affect students and institutions.

The countries covered by the study are Austria, Canada, UK-England, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Portugal and South Korea.
