New strategy to set the floor for ‘top varsities’ in Sultanate
By Mehdi al Lawati — MUSCAT — The Ministry of Higher Education has recently reported that the suspension of approving new licenses for establishing private institutions (universities and colleges) for three years subject to extension comes in line with many projects in the government. “The government is currently working on developing the strategy of education as whole, starting from pre-schoolling to higher education. As higher education authorities, we are working on a comprehensive law and improving our criteria. We wouldn’t want to open new institutions that wouldn’t be in line with the new strategy,” said Jokha al Shukaili, Director-General of Private Universities and Colleges at the Ministry of Higher Education, in an interview with the Observer.
