Do you believe in Open Education?

Since the inception of Open Educational Resources (OER) in 2001, pioneered by MIT’s OpenCourseWare and announced on the front page of the New York Times (Goldberg, 2001), there have been a plethora of new developments over the years, within the UK and Internationally. The steady increase in the quality and range of these resources has been guided by such groups as UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) who coined the phrase OER in 2002 and SCORE (Support Centre for Open Resources in Education) an Open University and HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England) joint venture between 2009 – 2012 (SCORE, undated).
