The German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) initiative “Project Nexus” is organising a conference entitled “Education and Training for European Teachers: Competence Models, Curricular Objectives and Harmonizing Theory and Practice” in Essen, Germany, from 20 to 21 January 2014.

The conference addresses policy makers, members of university boards, administration and faculty management, degree programme designers, academic teacher educators, professional trainers and teaching staff, students and other stakeholders in teacher education and professional training. The conference language will be English.

The University of Westminster, Graduate School, is organising an event on “Internationalising Research: Opportunities and Challenges for Collaboration”, London, UK, on 27 November 2013 from 17.00 to 19.30.

This round-table discussion aims to consider “both opportunities and challenges for international research collaboration, with contributions from policy-makers, funders and researchers”.

Guest Speakers include representatives of Research Councils UK (RCUK), the British Academy, the Welcome Trust and the European University Association (EUA), plus research staff from the University of Westminster.

Universities UK (UUK) has this month published a new report entitled “The funding challenge for universities”.

Focusing on England in particular, the report examines the “challenges for universities and government in funding any expansion of student numbers, given the backdrop of current funding restraints”. Drawing on research by the Institute for Fiscal Studies [IFS], the report calls for consideration of funding options that are “sustainable and ensure that higher education remains accessible to all applicants”.
