Kansai-area colleges go overseas to attract foreign students
By Takuya Asakura. Facing a shrinking pool of young people because of the declining birthrate, four top private colleges in western Japan are setting up offices abroad to lure bright foreign students, utilizing attractions such as nanotechnology and geisha in Kyoto.
The universities are also holding events overseas to raise their profiles and pitching assistance and other programs geared toward foreign students.
In July, Doshisha University established an office in Istanbul, Turkey, its seventh outside of Japan. More...
