This is a time when many of us start to think about the job market, tenure review, and all sorts of other adventures on the horizon. If you are like me, your summer to-do list probably included more work than could possibly fit into a few months. One of the fall-preparation tasks I kept postponing is updating my CV. Influx of Students From China Puts University to Unexpected Test

The Michigan State University student grew up a couple of hours from Canada, in Muskegon, Mich., yet had never been across the border. That might make Ms. Sobolewski seem like an odd choice to interview for an article I wrote about the first-year college experience of Chinese students. Russian Science Isn’t Dying, It’s Coming of Age

In late May, the Russian Academy of Sciences—a venerable institution established by Peter the Great nearly 300 years ago—elected its first new president in 22 years, Vladimir Fortov, a former science minister. Fortov ran on a platform of reform, declaring the academy “ready for change.” Given that the average age of members of the academy exceeds the average life expectancy of Russian men by more than 10 years, it would seem the academy needs changing, ready or not.
