Web2LLP has launched its 10-hour pilot series of the online social media course for managers of LLP projects. In the first session held on 30 April, domain expert Gary Shochat (PAU Education, Spain) explained why it is essential nowadays to build a communication strategy for the web that includes both a website (as institutional presence on the web) and social media (for communicating with the audience). He also pointed out why both channels (website/social media) need a very different approach. Later on he explained how important it is to decide what audience you are going to target and also to define the goals of your web-campaign well beforehand. Putting all these elements together results in a detailed action plan that can form the basis of a well-considered web strategy. In the second part of his presentation Gary described some useful social media tools and discussed well-known problems that can occur in projects that implement social media in their dissemination strategy.
Invited speaker, Valentina Garoia (European Schoolnet, Belgium) presented her experience in European Schoolnet and different projects (ITEC, eTwinning, Ingenious, Scientix). She provided examples and gave practical tips about using social media effectively in a project. She explained more about different management tools that can be very helpful when you want to manage more channels or are working with more people on the same dissemination tasks.
The Web2LLP project aims to improve web strategies and maximise the social media presence of lifelong learning projects. It provides personalised support and training (a week-long face-to-face course and free webinars), and shares best-practices and resources.
In the second session held last Tuesday, 7 May the audience was introduced to a variety of different social media tools such as blogs an
d microblogging, social networking sites, and slide repositories with a focus on the big 3: Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Nicholas Standage (PAU Education, Spain) showed several good examples of blogs and discussed what elements make a blog into an effective communication and promotion tool. Further on he described how you can get the most out of Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Invited speaker Bernard Van Isacker (PhoenixKM, Belgium) provided an insight into his social media strategies for the different projects in which he is involved. He gave some very useful tips, also encouraging everyone to make use of tools to make your communication channels better accessible for people with hearing disability).
