Teachers for the 21st Century - Using evaluation to improve teaching

Acknowledgements
The volume is mainly based on the teacher appraisal chapter of the final synthesis report from the OECD Review on Evaluation and Assessment Frameworks for Improving School Outcomes, which was drafted principally by Deborah Nusche, together with Thomas Radinger, Paulo Santiago and Claire Shewbridge of the OECD early childhood education and schools Division. The analysis and case studies from countries taking part in the summit that are not represented in the OECD review were prepared by Kristen Weatherby. The volume was edited by Andreas Schleicher in collaboration with Kristen Weatherby, Marilyn Achiron and Giannina Rech and in consultation with the summit co-sponsors, education international and the ministry of education of the netherlands. Clearly communicate the purpose and results of the evaluation

Evaluations are only as effective as their communication strategies. It is essential to clearly communicate long-term goals for student achievement as the rationale for proposed evaluation and accountability policies.Individuals and groups are more likely to accept changes that are not necessarily in their own best interests if they understand the reasons for these changes and can see the role they should play within a broad national strategy. This involves disseminating research findings on alternative policy options and information on the costs of reform vs. inaction. Such communication is critical for winning broad support for reforming the teacher and school evaluation systems. Download Using evaluation to improve teaching.
