Postgraduate funding: 'So, when are you going to do your masters?'

Why is the funding for them so poor, asks Liam Burns. The question "So, when are you going to get around to doing your masters?" is heard with increasing regularity among my contemporaries, and frequently met with the answer: when I can afford it, both in money and time. One thing’s for sure though: I’m not going to be Dr Burns for quite a while yet.
Once, not too long ago, postgraduate qualifications were something of a rarity outside of routes to academia, but in recent years they have become an increasingly standard, even necessary, entry route for quite a number of careers and professions. Read more...
