Implementing Full Costing to Support the Financial Sustainability of European Universities

Implementing Full Costing to Support the Financial Sustainability of European Universities, 23 – 25 January 2012, Hosted by Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. As part of the EUIMA – Full Costing project, which aims to enhance the development of full costing in European universities, EUA is organising its fourth study visit to offer the possibility to European university leaders, managers and administrators to learn about full costing from an institution well advanced in the practice. The study visit will take place at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) in Ireland on 23 – 25 January 2012 and will be the last event in the framework of this project.
A particular focus of this study visit will be the cooperation among universities, the government and funding agencies. Participants will learn about the Irish approach to implementing full costing in a nation-wide coordinated process among all relevant stakeholders led by the Irish Universities’ Association (IUA) and supported with funding from the Irish Higher Education Authority. The project will be presented by experts from Trinity College Dublin and other Irish universities as well as a wide range of stakeholders.
Furthermore, practical advice from different management levels at the host institution will be complemented by expert perspectives from other European universities. Participants will be able to learn about the key strategic issues involved in setting up full costing at their university, and to develop the skills required for managing this complex change process. These include how to arrange costing methodologies, to manage the data collected, and to design effective communication strategies. With a maximum of 40 participants, the study visit will also provide space for peer learning and for building networks to share expertise in the future.
