Part Time: the new paradigm for higher education?

Higher Education has traditionally been defined as full time. In a world of scarce resources and yet ever greater need and demand for higher level study, are we now moving into a new environment in which part-time must become the defining mode for higher education? The new paradigm poses questions for all aspects of the sector, ranging from modes of study, structure of institutions and geographical demands on students, to the financial climate for funding, fees and student support. The Conference will examine these and other critical aspects of what could be an entirely new higher education, perhaps within a remodelled culture of lifelong learning.
The Conference will be held at the Stirling Management Centre, within the University of Stirling campus, which is ideally situated for quick and easy access to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. It will focus on immediate and future issues for part-time provision in Higher Education and will be of particular interest to policy makers, senior management, academic providers and
administrators in lifelong learning both nationally and internationally.
Call for Papers
Proposals are invited on academic policy, practice and administrative topics. The conference programme will be flexible to include formal presentations, workshops and shorter seminar papers and poster sessions. Please send your proposal of no more than 300 words by 30 December 2010 to Lucy Bate at admin@uall.ac.uk.
